It’s been an up and down season this summer for Rutherford County’s Post 423 legion baseball club, but the regular season is over. On Wednesday, they started a five game playoff series with Mint Hill on the road. Post 423 is supposed to host game two on the fourth of July and game four if necessary on July 6th. Should they win the series, they will likey have to play Caldwell County, who is the no.1 seed from the west. Post 423 (6-8) has won four of its six regular season games on the road, so not all is lost by having to travel for possibly three games.
At the Rutherford County Heritage Center, located at 289 North Main Street in Rutherfordton in the Rutherfordton Town Office Building, you will find the Rutherford County Heritage Exhibit. The exhibit which was first put on display almost a year ago is one that no one in Rutherfordton and Rutherford County should miss. As Rutherfordton celebrates 225 years, everyone should take the time to review this exhibit which is a great tableau of the town and the county. It reflects all the things which have historically been a part of our heritage. This exhibit is for everyone. Residents, school children, teachers, history buffs, all will benefit from this wonderful display. If you take the time to read and study all the portrayals, you will find yourself enjoying and understanding this town of Rutherfordton and Rutherford County more than ever before.
Carl Kasell Radio Broadcaster
Many of us have heard him over the years. Certainly anyone who listened to NPR is familiar with his name and voice.
He was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on April 2, 1934. He lives in Washington, D. C. with his wife Mary Ann.
He is noted for the host of NPR’s Morning Edition.
He was a student of drama in high school in Goldsboro where one of his mentors was Andy Griffith then a high school drama instructor. He urged Kasell to pursue a career in theatre. However, Kasell liked radio more. During his time at UNC Chapel Hill, he helped launch a local radio station WUNC with fellow student Charles Kuralt.
New Hope Baptist Church has published a cookbook entitled “A Taste Of Heaven”. It has some wonderful time tested recipes which I’m now going to share with you. Into the kitchen I go with this cookbook. I believe I’ll make some desserts.

Jerry Walker Retires After 43 Years Plus
Do you appreciate the people around you?
My wife injured her left shoulder some years ago and it was really painful, so painful that she couldn’t do the normal things she does every day.
“Don’t worry, honey,” I told her, “I’ll take care of your stuff and mine.”
Little did I know what I was in for.
You see, she runs the horse farm we live on which means that she’s constantly caring for the horses. And she cooks most all of our meals. And she takes care of our daughter’s needs like helping fix hair and choosing which outfits to wear. Then there’s the grocery shopping, the housecleaning, and…well, you get the picture.

The temperatures have been sweltering even though summer has just begun. Three days in a row over 100 degrees makes outdoor activities less appealing – unless they include a dip in the lake, and even that is like swimming in a tub of hot bath water. Yes its summer, but I won’t complain. This is just the characteristics of where I live.
