We just welcomed in 2012, so here are a few things to look back on from 2011 involving Rutherford County high school athletics.
7)Thomas Jefferson’s boys soccer team goes four rounds in the playoffs before being defeated in the elite eight. In school history, the Gryphons had never made it that far in postseason play in any sport until this year.
In 2007 at the Ellenboro Elementary School I first met Landyn Johnson. There was a big fund raiser going on at the school to help defray his mounting medical costs. You see, 2007 was the year it was discovered that this three year old little boy had cancer!
As I promised, I’m going to start the 2012 off with some soup recipes and maybe a hearty casserole. With all the desserts and big meals we have had during the holidays, I believe a good bowl of soup or a nice casserole will give the cook in the kitchen some time off. I’m starting of the year by using the cookbook, “Recipes & Memories” from Second Baptist Church in Rutherfordton.
Tax season is in full swing. Taxpayers receiving a refund tend to file earlier in the year, while those who owe Uncle Sam often wait until closer to the filing deadline.
Have you walked with a two-year old?
Have you ever tried to take a two-year-old on a straight-ahead walk? It just doesn’t happen. Children that age have an entirely different agenda. For a two-year-old, there is no sense of accomplishment with leaving point A in order to arrive at point B. The only reason for even venturing out the door is the prospect of the journey—or to meander—between point A and point B.

My friend Dave just killed a buck in Ohio. This time however, instead of waiting on the big one, he arrowed one that had a lot to be desired. It was an older buck with one antler that had been broken off and the other one that looked as if each point had been worn down to the nub. The body of the deer was big as is typical in Ohio, but the wear and tear of many years of fighting had taken its toll on the rest of its features.
