After graduating high school, some athletes don’t get a chance to play collegiate ball, but East Rutherford’s Michaela and Asheley Watkins are succeeding at Brevard College during their junior year on the Lady Tornados basketball team.
As it wraps up a busy 2011, Facebook today unveiled a new sculpture by Rutherford County artist Tom Elfers. The piece -- created in the image of the company’s signature ‘f’ -- includes material reclaimed from Facebook’s data center site in Forest City.
Despite a tough economy, the people of Rutherford County continued to help out their own during the holidays. Thanks to all who donated to our annual toy drive.
Rosendin Electric was also busy this season making a list and checking it twice. The company collected, and with the help of Bob and Barbara Booker, delivered two truckloads of toys to our office. Rosendin Electric is the electric contractor on the Facebook project here in the county.

I’m taking Spindale’s Advent Lutheran Church’s cookbook with me. Their cookbook is entitled - cleverly - “ADVENTures in Cooking from the North Carolina Foothills”!

Some of my hunting friends have put up the deer calls and embraced the duck calls. I know of several who deer hunt through November and then when December comes around, they spend their time in a blind. I really like that scenario but the ducks are really limited in my area.

Rutherford County Beekeepers’ Club
Announces its 2012 School. The school will meet from 8:30am-12pm for five Saturdays, beginning January 21 and ending February 18, 2012 at the Rutherford County Annex, Rutherfordton, NC.
