First let me thank Rita Merrell for her loyalty to our cooking column and also for catching a misprint on the Fruit Cocktail Cake recipe. The topping was 1 can of evaporated milk, not 12! Rita thought it might be 1/2. Thanks for the call and so this week I’m going to dedicate my column to the Lady Merrell! It’s always good to hear from readers. May you always get in the kitchen and “show the love”! I just took Bethel Baptist Church’s “Forward By Faith” cookbook off the “Lovin’ Shelf” and am going to the kitchen and make some great salads! The weather is getting nice and these sunny days call for a good salad.

My dog, Raggs, is a miniature schnauzer which means most of the world is bigger than him so he defends me and himself pretty quickly.  I wanted Raggs to be social with at least some other canines. So, I set up a doggie playdate with one of my friends and her dog, Oliver. We planned to go to a dog park on a sunny Sunday afternoon.  I was really nervous when Oliver and his mommy arrived.  “What if Raggs didn’t get along with Oliver or any of the other dogs? What if he tried to defend me and got in a fight?”
