Beloved Cliffside locomotive being restored

The story is relevant today as the New Hope Valley Railway celebration the weekend of April 20 and April 21 includes an exhibit of Cliffside Railroad 110. The New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR) in Bonsal acquired the historic steam locomotive, "Cliffside Railroad 110," about a decade ago and is in the process of restoring it. The steam locomotive was in residence at Stone Mountain Park, Ga. for about 60 years, before it was returned to North Carolina. The Stone Mountain Memorial Association, which manages the park, gave this old-time engine to NHVR located in Bonsal, below Apex in southwestern Wake County. Read More ...

Training Service Dogs became a beacon of hope; Saving lives is what the dogs do
Sitting in a college class some time ago, a K9 handler with her service dog at her side heard her dog whimpering and would not stop. The handler (who asked not to be identified) and dog Oliver Queen walked to the front of the room where the professor stood. The handler asked several questions of the professor regarding possible medical issues and the professor said he was fine. Oliver tapped the professor on his chest and the handler asked if he had heart issues. The professor did and was advised by the handler to seek medical attention. His life was saved. How are you doing today?
When someone asks you how you're doing, how do you respond? Do you just pass off their question as a greeting and just say, "Fine" or "Okay"? Do you launch into a laundry list of complaints you have about how you're feeling or what's wrong with you or how you were doing fine until that obnoxious Mr. Jones ruined your day?
Or, maybe you Live Positive like Mrs. Glick. Mrs. Glick was a very special lady. My friend met her when he was a teenager. She made a real and positive impact on his life.
Every time my friend asked Mrs. Glick how she was doing, Mrs. Glick said softly and sweetly, "I'm thankful for one more day." She lived to be 103 years old, greeting each day by being thankful for one more day.
So my friend, when asked how he's doing today, says like Mrs. Glick, "I'm thankful for one more day."
The next time someone asks, "How are you doing today?," even if you don't feel it, say, "I'm thankful for one more day" and keep saying it until you Live Positive like Mrs. Glick. Read More ...
